Indian dessert made with sooji(semolina), ghee (clarified butter), sugar, milk, nuts, and water. Several variants of this dish are available under other names in various parts of India. Its often made in Indian festivals and given as a prasad (offering) to God in a puja.

INGREDIENTS :

  • 3/4 cup suji (semolina)
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1/2 cup roasted groundnuts
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 and 1/2 cup water
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp saffron
  • 1/4 tsp elaichi (cardamom powder)

 

 

 

STEPS TO FOLLOW :

Step 1: first mix water and milk and warm them up. Now in a nonstick pan add ghee(clarified butter), keep the heat on a medium-low. Once the ghee is melted add suji and wheat flour, and keep stirring. after about 3 minutes add roasted groundnuts. Keep stirring for 2 to 3 more minutes.

Step 2: Now at this point, your suji should be cooked and light. Add sugar, milk mixture, cardamom, and saffron. Mix everything well and cover the pan, and cook it for 2 minutes. Now at this point, if you see ghee starts to separate that means your halwa is ready. Serve it hot and enjoy this any time of the day.
