Dal palak is an easy and nutritious recipe of spinach with pigeon pea lentils. I am using 3 different lentils and made it more delicious. This healthy wholesome meal is perfect for meatless Mondays or at any time of the week. Enjoy this delicious daal with rice or paratha.

INGREDIENTS :

  • 1/2 cup Toor dal ( pigeon pea lentils)
  • 1/2 cup chana dal (split chickpeas)
  • 1/2 cup masoor dal (split red lentils)
  • 1 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1 cup tomato sauce or finely chopped tomato
  • 1 cup finely chopped spinach
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp minced ginger
  • 1 tbsp chopped green chilies (optional)
  • 3 Tbsp oil
  • 1 Tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1 Tbsp garam masala
  • 1 Tbsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 Tbsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste

Tadka(tempering)

  • 2 Tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
  • 6 curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 5 cloves
  • 2 dry red chili’s

 

 

 

STEPS TO FOLLOW :

Step 1: First boil ur dal in a pressure cooker or in an instant pot. Now in a pan heat oil and add cumin seeds. Then add onions and salt to taste. cook onions for about 3 minutes, and then add tomato sauce, ginger, garlic, green chilies, spinach, and all the dry spices. Cook this gravy for about 2 minutes and then add boiled lentils, along with 2 to 3 cups of water. Mix it, cover it and let it cook for about 8 minutes.

Step 2: Now Take cooked dal in a serving bowl. For tempering heat ghee, and once the ghee is hot carefully add cumin, cloves, red chilies, curry leaves, and pour this tadka on a dal. Garnish it with cilantro and Enjoy this delicious dal with paratha or rice.
